Eid-ul-Fitr 1431 Message from KSISAM Lead Student Volunteer, Br. Ali Salim Alimohamed

It is a chance to renew old acquaintanceship, and also to make new friends. I have been asked to say a few words,
and I will try to keep it short.
Today is after all, a day of celebration, a day to enjoy congenial company and the goodies on the table. But in
commemorations with this joyful occasion, we also mark the first anniversary of this very centre; yet, this would be a
wasted opportunity, if I did not share some thoughts with you, about matters that concern us all.
This centre was officially opened on the very same day a year ago, 1st Shawaal 1430 by Al-Mawaddat Centre
Convenor, Patron and Advisor to KSISAM, Al Haj Husseinbhai Kassam (whom we have more commonly addressed
simply as 'uncle'), although the soft opening was done on 16th Ramadan 1430 in conjunction with the Wiladat of
Imam Hassan (AS).
KSISAM spells out our identity of who we are and what we do. And it is this very identity with which we have kept alive
our religious practices and socio-cultural obligations. But this would not have been possible without a place to
convene. Al-Mawaddat Centre has made it possible and we are proud to have it today.
Our activities have their own history. Beginning with taking place at the house of Hussein uncle since 2002 and
thereafter in an apartment between 2007 and 2008, one of the reasons for opening up this centre was to
accommodate the need for large space in lieu of growing numbers of students and non-student participation. At
present, we have a students population of seventy, and a further forty persons who are non-students. Thus a large
place was inevitable.
As every society has their objective, so does ours. Therefore I would remind our youths that we have this centre to
Sustaining Unity among us, Maintaining Social Contacts between each other, Organising Religious events throughout
the year, promoting youth participation in recitation of supplications.
When I talk about unity, we all gather here at least once a week for Dua-e-Kumail and this re-unites us with the grace
of Allah (SWT). We tend to share some ideas and thoughts which bring closeness among our brotherhood. These
gatherings also promote our youth in participating for the recitation of the holy Quran, duas, amaal, marsia, nauha
and ziyarat instead of listening it up from the mp3. Previously we also used to have majlises played from CD’s and
DVD’s but now we have our youth who have come out and conducting such lectures with the most recent being a
brother (Br. Huessin Karim) whom I would like to commend for his excellent, strong and knowledgeable majlises.
People ask us who we intend to call Muharram to recite the majalis. We need not look further. I can now proudly say,
we will have our own Br. Hussein Karim this time. (I hope he is going to be around before other jamaats call him)
Secondly, maintaining social contacts. Through these gatherings, we have been able to catch up with each other. For
I know, I only meet most of you here. Otherwise we’re all busy in our own world of studies. I am sure it is the same for
many of us.
Furthermore during this year, KSISAM has organised a list of activities, projects and presentations that have been
done by various students. To mention a few activities, we have had a barbeque dinner to commemorate Milad-un-
Nabi.
KSISAM also had an opportunity to create the first ever construction project – commonly referred to as the “Karbala
Project” which we termed it as Safar-e-azam or The Journey of Utmost Significance, as it not only covered Karbala,
but a journey from Medina to Karbala, Kufa, Shaam and the return leg. It all started when one of our own students,
Brother Sabir Kamruddin came up with an idea of making up a model which would resemble the one made in Dar-es-
salaam (Tanzania) but on a smaller scale. A couple of students volunteered in this including the ladies and I would like
to thank the team led by Br. Sabir, the project director (without your idea, none of this would be possible) and his
team of Bothers Zain Ismail, Minhal Datoo, Hasnain Sachoo, Mohamedkumail Kassam, Abbas Bandali, myself and
Sisters Aaliya Salim, Kaniz-e-Sakina Ladha, Rukaiya Karim, Naseeba Kassam, Zahra Kassamali, and Nusrat Aga (for
the beautiful paintings), and of course the support of our Advisors Hussein Uncle and Saida Aunty.
We also had the chance of making some presentations for the Wiladats and Wafaats and others. I believe for those
who attended the last Saturday iftar, some of you witnessed that we had made up a presentation on Quds day
followed by a short video clip about what’s going on in Palestine.
Flashing back to the memories of the founding of this centre, this building was acquired on rental basis from July
2009. The renovations were made to suit the requirements of our centre and I would like to acknowledge our brothers
who volunteered their tremendous efforts in Cleaning, Painting, Sound System installation, and setting up this place.
Allow me to express my thanks to Br. Aliasgar Kalyan, Mohamed Hussein Molu, Taha Molu, Miqdaad Ramani, and
Shahidali Alidina, the last person among us today too. The rest have successfully completed and inshallah they will
earn thawaab-e-jariah for as long as all of us patronise this place.
I would sound incomplete if I didn’t mention these names without whom this whole centre runs. They have given in
every little bit of their time and energy to make this centre a successful and active one. We are grateful to the limitless
efforts of Hussein uncle and Saida Aunty who have sacrificed so much to keep this centre and its activities alive. May
Allah bless them with rewards in this world and akhirat and give them the strength to continue for the foreseeable
future and we shall support them in their noble endeavours.
We strive to progress and achieve more and we wish to add in our list new milestones. And this auspicious day of Eid-
ul-Fitr, KSISAM has reached yet another feat and takes this opportunity to launch the Al-Mawaddat Video Channel on
You Tube, your video gallery to all video lectures, presentations and activities produced by our students. I will leave
you now to watch a short video clip in this honour and flash back your memories to what we have achieved to this day.

On behalf of Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Students at Malaysia (KSISAM), I would like to wish
all of you, a very happy Eid Mubarak, or as they say it locally here “Selamat Hari Raya”.
We pray to Allah (SWT) to accept all our fasts and amaals of the month of Ramadhan
and give us life to see it again next year (Ameen).
I am privileged to be given the honour to stand before you and deliver an address on
this auspicious occasion and to welcome you here today, to celebrate Eid ul Fitr. This
gathering of students, families and friends, is something that we all look forward to each
year; at least I have been looking forward to it.
